If you need an International Driving Permit (IDP) in the United States, the American Automobile Association (AAA) is one of only two organizations authorized to issue them - the other being AATA. However, not all AAA offices provide this service, so it's important to know if the AAA location you're thinking about going to issues them. Here’s how to check:
Step 1: Visit the AAA Office Locator
The best way to find a nearby AAA office is by using their official office locator tool. Go to this webpage and enter your zip code to see a map of AAA offices near you.
Step 2: Check for IDP Issuance
Once you can see the nearby AAA locations, follow these steps to ensure they issue International Driving Permits:
Click on the office you’re interested in
Look under “Travel Services” and confirm that “International Driving Permits” is listed. If it’s not, you will need to go to a different AAA office.
Step 3: Contact the Office (Optional)
Even if an office lists IDPs as a service, it’s a good idea to call ahead and confirm:
IDP booklets are in stock. There have been several times that our team has gone to a AAA branch and the IDP booklets have been out of stock
Office hours, to make sure they are open when you plan to visit
If you don’t want to head to a AAA branch in person, you can work with us at Fast IDP to quickly and easily submit your IDP application online. We’ll go to AAA on your behalf and get you an IDP, then express ship it to you anywhere in the world. Reach out if you have any questions and drive safely!
